Project Log – Brilliant Bethnal Green

For our latest trick, Propia was invited to help convert an old, split-level, light industrial space in Bethnal Green into an expansive and unique living space. Personally we are rather pleased with the results, but we will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Project Log – Happening Holborn

It has been a busy time for the Propia team recently, so busy in fact that we have completely neglected to (very belatedly) post any pictures of a fun little project we took on towards the back end of summer 2014. This one was a little different……

Why the new stamp duty regime is very welcome

In the latest Autumn Statement, shortly after George Osborne’s classic Wallace and Gromit gag, George pulled what the policy makers hope is a magic white rabbit out of the hat. In reforming the stamp duty regime the conservatives have played a clever card with little more than 5 months until the General Election, the changes were long overdue and will appeal to a decent chunk of the electorate while also quelling some of the calls for Mr Balls’ mansion tax. Home Selling Tips and Advice (Part 2)

Our initial intention to write a quick piece on our top tips for home selling quickly extended to a 3-part series (a trilogy if you will). In the first part we looked at what the reasons for selling are and asked the question: “What am I trying to get out of this process and what do I really want to avoid?” In part 2 we are going to look at the top improvements which can really make a difference; remember that adding value is only one part of this, for some creating a property which sells quickly and easily is of equal importance.

Cutting VAT on home improvements

Cut the VATTaxes….few people like them and many complain about them, but that is because we take for granted all the wonderful free services they pay for. They are therefore very necessary, but it is important to make sure they are implemented in a fair and proportional way and when it comes to taxes on housing we think there is some room for improvement.

In a previous post we looked at the perversities of the stamp duty regime, this time round we are writing to put our full support behind the Cut The VAT campaign. This is a campaign to reduce the VAT on housing renovation and repair work from 20% to 5%. Other than simply making our services more affordable, there are a number of reasons why we think this makes complete sense. Continue…

Home Selling Tips and Advice (Part 1)

moving house houseA recent attention grabbing headline claimed that “Buying or selling a house is most stressful part of modern life“. This bold statement is based on a survey commissioned by estatesdirect.com and backed up with a list of the top 10 most stressful elements. At the risk of being accused of being cynical, we at Propia treat all such surveys with a pinch of salt; the sample size is invariably statistically insignificant and the questions so heavily loaded, in accordance with whoever has commissioned the poll, that even our pet dog (who is yet to get onto the property ladder) would support the original notion.

Project Log – Groovy Grove Park

For our latest project we were asked to help create a more functional downstairs living space in this pretty little terraced house in South East London. Catford and the surrounding areas are frequently tipped as the latest “in” place to buy and through our carefully implemented improvements this property was well and truly proptimised!
